Editorial Policy
Last Updated: September 1, 2025
Introduction
This Editorial Policy outlines the principles and practices that guide the editorial standards at Four Finalized Editing LLC. It serves as a framework for our editorial team to ensure consistency, quality, and integrity in services delivered to clients.
Academic Integrity
Commitment to Academic Integrity and Originality
- The editing team is responsible for ensuring that the edited work is properly cited, and any referenced materials or ideas not originally from the author are appropriately attributed to their sources. We strive to uphold the highest standards of academic integrity.
- Editors will review the content for any inadvertent or unintentional plagiarism using appropriate plagiarism-checking tools.
Client Privacy
Confidentiality of the Editing Process
- Editors will ensure that all edited work is kept confidential and will not be reused or redistributed without the author’s consent.
- All electronic files are securely stored and accessible only to the assigned editor and authorized personnel. For security purposes, electronic data will be stored for three years before deletion.
Respecting Student Privacy and FERPA Compliance
- Editors are committed to upholding the confidentiality of all student information in strict compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Personal details, academic records, and other confidential information will never be shared with third parties without the explicit consent of the student, except in circumstances where it is required in compliance with state or federal law.
- All communications, documents, and files are handled securely to maintain privacy. Our editors sign confidentiality agreements to further safeguard students' sensitive data.
Editorial Protocols
Maintaining Clarity and Coherence
- Our editors strive to improve the clarity, structure, and coherence of academic papers while ensuring that the author’s original voice and intent are preserved.
- Suggestions or edits should make the text more readable and logical without altering the intended meaning or original research conclusions.
- Each paper is reviewed for consistency in terminology, style, and formatting, ensuring a polished final draft that meets academic standards.
Adherence to Citation and Style Guidelines
- Editors will ensure that all references, citations, and bibliographies conform to the required style guide (e.g., APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.) as specified by the client or academic institution.
- The editing process will include checking the correctness of in-text citations, page formatting, and reference list entries to meet the standards of the chosen citation style.
Timeliness and Meeting Deadlines
- Editors are committed to delivering high-quality work within the agreed-upon deadlines. These deadlines (Turn Around Time) are stated in the client’s service contract. We will communicate proactively with clients if any delays are expected and make necessary accommodations.
Bias & Ethics
Cultural Sensitivity
- Editors will approach sensitive or culturally specific topics with respect and awareness. We ensure that language, terminology, and framing are culturally appropriate and in alignment with ethical academic writing standards. Where necessary, we will provide guidance on improving the tone and sensitivity of the paper in accordance with best practices in academic discourse. We are committed to respecting diverse perspectives, voices, and identities.
Conflicts of Interest
- Editors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest before beginning the editing process. A conflict of interest arises when an editor has a personal, professional, or financial relationship with the subject matter of the paper, the author, or any other parties involved in the academic project that could bias the editing process.
- If a conflict of interest is identified, the editor must recuse themselves from editing the project or, if that is not possible, the company will assign another editor to handle the work to maintain objectivity and fairness in the review process.
Sponsored Content
- In cases where academic papers or research are associated with sponsorship (e.g., research funded by external organizations, corporate sponsorships, or commercial interests), editors must ensure that the academic integrity of the content is maintained, and any potential biases from sponsorships are disclosed.
- Sponsored content or research should be edited with the same rigorous standards as any other academic paper, ensuring that all claims are well-supported by evidence, appropriately referenced, and free from undue influence by the sponsor.
- If any part of the paper could be perceived as a form of promotional material or influenced by the sponsor, the editor will advise the client to include a clear disclosure statement within the paper to uphold transparency.
